The Best of Times for The Entrepreneur

When I hear somebody sigh, ‘Life is hard,’ I am always tempted to ask, ‘Compared to what?’ – Sydney J. Harris

good-old-business-intelligence

Its Thanksgiving in Canada – (what you say? – Thanksgiving? – its not November – its not winter?) – sorry we jump the gun on Thanksgiving- its a harvest thing.

Anyway – its Thanksgiving in Canada and so all the Radio and T.V has the mandatory ‘what are you thankful for” things

So how about: -

You got to think – its a great time for an entrepreneur to be alive.

An unbelievable time, in fact.

Almost beyond belief.

Now if your someone who will make it happen regardless and have infinite drive ands energy and business ‘chops’ then anytime is a great time . But for the average – for me, for most of us – up until the present day there has never been a time that allows such easy access to the creation of such large businesses, and much more important – such widespread available Mentorship for  said businesses.

What does it take to have a legitimate business?

Capital. Access to markets.A business plan (or at least business notion) and a way to create failures without killing your soul .

A Canadian Bank study done in the early 80′s said entrepeneurs under the age of 30 who were making over $5000, 000 a year had failed (they mean bankruptcy) at least 5 times.

If you failed 5 times in days gone by you were in prsion or shipped to Australia (sorry Aussie) or Devils Island in French Guinea. And that’s not easy to make a come back from. ( tho yes The Antipodeans did make quite the come back …)

Access to the Internet – High Speed Internet these days – for pennies – is something we take for granted but is a entrepeneurs dream.

Not long ago – remember a computer was machines a in a room guarded by the high priests of programmers – and you submitted ‘requests’.

Now its copy and paste. Right mouse click and your in business.

For $39.95  a month (or whatever) you get access to a world marketplace. For $39.95 a month you can find an infinity of pre made products you can sell or enhance and ship to your customers not only instantly, but for free (Info products).

You can write your own book or for $80 hire someone to write a book for you – and sell it 24 hours a day anywhere and everywhere in the world.

For $39.95 a month you get access to the best (and the worst) Internet business brains that exist. And 90% of the most important information you need is given away free.

You dont need a bricks and mortar store. No rent

You dont need a factory or printing press or typesetting course. No overhead.

You dont need a certificate or ‘experience’ or a certain ‘look’ or background to access business. Just turn up.

And you can fail for pennies. And succeed with millions.

And here’s something no-one has ever had – you can verify and test you market at almost no cost – except your time and willingness to test your market.

You can ask and get a Response from your market in hours. You can test and enhance and test and enhance for no cost.No I.T Division,No Telemarketing Division. No advertising agency. No accounts department. No Sales department. No research dept. Just You.

For a few dollars you can have your own Web Presence, you own Domain Name, and hire a company to manage all your on-line transactions.

It wasnt long ago that; -

a) there were no companies you could trust to manage your on-line transactions, who knew how?

b)And a domain name cost hundreds of dollars and a website that stayed up for any length of time was gold.

And now you can make money in your underwear sipping coffee, with a ten dollar domain name and ten dollar website (thats better than any amount of money could have created 10 years ago).

No traffic. No rush hour. No office politics. No office.

Unlimited potential.

So its Thanksgiving here.

Always

  1. The problem is that this is best of times for EVERYONE. This means much more competition. Sure it’s easy to pay $39.95 for something, but it is easy for everyone. There are millions of talented guys on this planet that have $39.95 to spend. You need to compete with them all.

  2. Well I have to agree – a rising tide and all that. However, most people aren’t that good and dedicated. Most people have no idea of what it takes to get a business running. You never compete with the mass – only the few. But more important (IMHO) we have never had access to such a vast marketplace. Ever. And the marketplace had never had such easy access to the small business .Ever.And that counts. I have had lots of businesses in very competitive situations , but always limited by the marketplace. And to expand the market was always extremely (if possible at all) expensive.

But I agree with you – nothings perfect. But with such a large market you dont even need .01% of any given market to make money. So you can fail 99.9% with the rest of the competition and the market and still rack up them dollars (IMHO-only)-
