Antidote to Excuses

None are so busy as the foolish and the knave - John Dryden  (English Poet)

Hows that for a classy opening!

The biggest excuse – yours or your prospects if you are trying to involve them, or you in a business proposition , is “I am too busy”

Now everyone is busy(see Dryden above) no-one has 5 to 6 hours a week lying around they don’t know what to do with. This is The Industrious Western World, this is the age of 24/7, this is where we have all this technology that makes us busier and busier ..

We’re not that busy. We’re not so busy we cant prioritze something we feel will benefit us . We are not so busy we don’t see (secretly) we are too busy – see video

Its not that you or your prospect is busy – its that they dont believe what you offer, or you dont belive what is offered will actually help you.

You dont believe it for three reasons

1) you dont trust the person offering the proposal

2) you dont trust the proposal

3) you dont trust yourself to make it work

And its the third that is the killer. The one that really stops us. WE dont believe we can make ‘it’ work.

You can say I dont have enough money, I dont have enough time, I dont have the talent, my wife/husband/partner/parakeet wont let me.

But we miss the opportunitites because – mostly we dont believe WE can make it work, We dont trust ourselves to

1) work hard enough

2) follow through

3) stick to it

4) make it happen

So we hide in ‘busy’

Wouldnt you rather as the lady in the video say – have a private income and get laid well and often?  And get laid on the beaches of the world while all the ‘busy’ people are working. And get laid by someone you love and you can spend all the time you want with?

Its not the project, its believing you can make it work.

Most projects dont work. But as long as you keep working the ‘opportunities’ you will

1) begin to recognize the good one

2) and make even the not so good ones work

Have faith

You’re as good as you think you are

  1. Hi Martin,

My second visit to your blog, I never commented the first time ha ha.

I really liked this post and I think it was point 3, you don’t trust yourself to make it work.

I never really thought of it that way, but I do now!

You seem to have a really great insight into buyers / customers mindsets, I will be back to read more of your posts, this type of “stuff” really interests me.

    Sally :)
