Goal Post Part 1
Goals who needs em?
I used to think if you want to get something done – you get it done, all this PMA (positive mental attitude) stuff and goal setting was, well for the weak, or for people who want to make money writing PMA books to the weak.
If you wanna get it done – you get it done.
Goals who needs em…
Well no-one – unless you want to live and or achieve anything.
Now a lot of the time in “life” we seem to get by without goals – but all thats happening is we are achieving things without consciously being aware we are setting goals. Everything we do that is a motion is the result of a pre-planned goal. Whether is automatic like a breathing cycle, a heart pumping your blood – or an electro-whatever it is – making your vison work and your muscles move. All result of goals. If you want to learn a new language – thats a goal, if you want to build a building thats a goal, if you want to write a blog post – date a somebody you like – thats a goal. But most of them are so part of the process we never notice.
But when it come to something we dont automatically do. When its perhaps a financial or health goal or diet plan or new exercise program that we is new to us and we dont normally do. Something we have to stretch for. That’s when we have to deliberately go through steps we would normally automatically do.
When you want to create or achieve something thats a struggle or is inconvenient and requires planning , then you have to break it down to get it done.
The you need to deliberately set a goal
And it has to be a goal you can emotionally ‘buy’. You have to want it.
It has to be a clear goal. (Not well something like …this would be ok I guess. ‘Something like this would be ok I guess’ – is going to fall apart if it requires any sustained effort on your part.)
Now the goal doesn’t have to be something that satisfies every aspect of life. Remember when you get there – to the goal. You will find theres more – theres always more. And you will set another goal.
Also a goal apart from the emotional investment (you really want this) must have a time frame. Did I mention – must MUST have a time frame?
And a ten year goal is great – but unless you are a remarkable individual (And of course you are ) but I mean disciplined as all get out – you will need to break that large goal down into intermediate reachable (time wise goals)
Oh – and …
well to be continued – next post (goalpost?)
