Life is not Fair – even Michael Phelps says so
It’s not fair – is it.
I mean we try to be good, we try to be honest, we teach kids morals and duty and “dont lie and don’t cheat” – but still the world sucks. They’re all cheating aren’t they?
OK here’s the secret, and the answer to – ‘Its not fair’: -
- No I’m sorry it isn’t fair-
Fair is not a word that Nature really understands for instance. Its a word human nature craves perhaps, but in the big picture of life – all that matters is that life of some kind persists. Until it doesn’t.
In the bigger picture of say a Spiritual Universal View – fair and not fair, good and bad perhaps don’t even exist, perhaps there just IS.
So a lot of help that is right?
We teach kids not to lie and cheat and yet in the adult world – in sports and politics and advertising and business, they’re seems to be nothing but lies and cheats and trickery.
All the adults lie and cheat. Advertising is a joke -we know that product isn’t really THE BEST or THE BRIGHTEST, it wont make you happy or even smile.
The politician cant deliver – there’s no money and the party will never go for it.
Your friend says she’ll be there, but she isn’t, or he isn’t – well they’re busy and something came up, they forgot,and their kids were sick, the phone was broken, the hangnail was huge, they forgot.
They let you down.
Its not fair.
And thats jerk makes all that money and hes not a nice guy at all, he doesnt deserve that – and that bitch has all the guys and…its not fair.Is it?
No.
On a human level , no it really isn’t. The swimsuit makes the guy go faster, whether it was Phelps at the Olympics or Biedermann in Rome. Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile after he found lighter shoes – now was that fair, he was carrying way less weight.When they switched to fiber glass pole all the high jumping records were shattered -and there you were at the top of your game with a bamboo pole… I mean, doesn’t it ever end?
No.
So what?- Shoot myself?
Here’s the greatest secret, whenever ego is involved we tend to move to selfishness. But no-one makes us, we choose to go with the ego. WE CHOSE TO.
Think about that – we choose to go to ego, which causes us and others pain and jealousy and anger and resentment and pride and all those other human failings, or attributes perhaps.
So choose not to. Because we can.
All the power to create pain and peace is in the individual, you and me -not a race or a political party or even a popular movement.
Its an individual choice made at any and every moment.
Forgiveness is the most powerful weapon against ego we have. Forgiving ourselves that is.
Yes we did that horrible thing or told that terible lie, or even inflicted that terrible hurt on another – we do, we did, and possibly we’ll do it again.
The thing is if we want to – REPEAT -if we want to – we can stop. We can say -’ I choose now not to inflict hurt’.
‘I choose now today this minute not to lie, I may fall off the wagon in an hour or tomorrow , but when I do, I can forgive myself and choose the next time to be “fair”‘
The wonder of humanity is though we have all the sins , we have all the virtues.Every one of us. Yes sins are easier and more justified, – ‘he hit me first – waaa’ -
But WE know, you know I know, we can choose not to. Its not fair – BUT you or I can make it fair.
Anytime.
All the time.
Our world, the world that we inhabit.Us. The world in our mirror.Fair.Just.
We may falter, we probably will falter – ego and pride are powerful addictions – but at the very next step we can be fair, and honest and true.
Its always the choice of what we do now, not what we did. WE hold all the keys to fairness and honesty.No one else. You do and I do. Exclusively.
Now.
Is that fair?
