Prospering

Online Dictionary: to thrive, succeed, etc., or cause to thrive, succeed, etc. in a healthy way

Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913): . To be successful; to succeed; to be fortunate or prosperous; to thrive; to make gain. They, in their earthly Canaan placed, Long time shall dwell and prosper. –Milton

Doesn’t that sound good ‘Long time shall dwell and prosper“.

To thrive (in a healthy way).

I like the concept of prospering. Success with a healthy moral component, perhaps.

Everyone wants to succeed, to make it. Who wants to prosper? It sounds more on-going that succeeding doesn’t it. Like its a life thing as opposed to an immediate thing. “Ok so I succeeded in doing that – now what?” But if you have prosperity or are prospering, its ongoing. Makes a journey out of effort.

Everyone wants just enough;

“I just want enough to be (fill in the blank)and happy, comfortable, taken care of, that all”

And then when we have that- well we want more.Just enough more.

What if the goal was ; “I want to prosper” ?

That suggests something ongoing, and also something interactive. You cant ‘prosper’ and leave your friends and neighbours in the ditch. That creates success perhaps, but not prosperity. Prosperity suggests we raise ourselves and everyone else up at the same time doesn’t it?

America was once known as a prosperous nation, now its..what? The richest? The most powerful?. I would like to be in a Prosperous nation wouldn’t you. It implies the nation is powerful, successful, of course, but also a nation that lifts up others.

How about a goal of prospering? When asked whats your goal in life – you can say – I wish to prosper.

How do you prosper?

Well prosperity is not necessarily about how much wealth/stuff/gold you can acquire, as much perhaps about how much good will you can build.

Prosperity is not so much about getting to the top. Maybe more about pushing your potential

Prosperity is not so much about being Number 1. It suggest more that you are part of a community that has become enriched through effort and mutual concern for wellbeing

Prospering isn’t working till you drop. But a balance of effort, goodwill and achievement.

To succeed – you win. You overcome. You beat the rest. You destroy the challenges. You kill the opposition.

To prosper – you are in a mode of constant achievement. You are aware you are part of a group, a species perhaps. You realize success only works if somehow your success has enriched others.

Its not that tricky to succeed – you just keep going. Its not complicated. Its just hard dedicated work towards a goal.

To prosper, perhaps, requires ongoing realization that one person making it alone, is one thing, but when you reach down to bring others along, even if it seems it will slow the journey, is something beyond imagining

Success Principles I learned from Watching American Idol

1) Dreams don’t come true, just because you have them.Work is always involved.

There is the famous Clement Stone quote – “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” However there are steps between conceiving and achieving and every step requires work, belief and overcoming obstacle

2) Everyone is not and is never equal in terms of talents and abilities.

Some people really can’t sing, and some people can really sing. But everyone is equal in ability to create a success if they work at it. If you really want to be a singer and have no natural talent – understand the obstacles and work and heart ache you will have to go through. But if you will go through the challenges and take the lessons, take the disciplining, then you can achieve success. You never win at anything if you quit at the first sign of resistance, or criticism.
Another famous quote – quitters never win and winners never quit. Cliche but true.

3) Comparisons are useless and destructive.

You always work on what you can control, and you can only control you and your results and your reactions. To say he or she is a better singer or luckier or smarter or stronger has no value.

What can you do?

What are you prepared to do?

Compare only what can be done with what you are doing. Not the other competitor. The view from the top is always fine, no matter how long it takes to get there.

4) Complaining about a bad call, an unluckily break,a bad judge, an unseen obstacle, can never help.

Success is always about focus, focus on the goal and the plan. The task at hand. You only have so much energy at any given moment, use it wisely, do not let it dissipate in despair and complaints.

And no matter who you are there will always be someone doing whatever you want to do, faster, with more money or more talent or more grace or more dumb luck. So what its not about them, its about your drive to goal. Focus is all

5)Be flexible on the time frame, but not the goal.

You might not win American Idol say, or might not even pass the first audition, but in terms of an over journey to a goal – that is irrelevant. It is merely an experience, an event in a series of events toward your goal.

The winner of American Idol is rarely after the one who makes it ‘big’. That requires work an persistence. Not just singing ability an ht luck of the voting pool that year.

6) A sure test of if you really want to success: – what happens when you are told you will never be successful in that particular endeavor? If you quit You lose.
You may re adjust your goal, or re asses your journey, and maybe even go for a slightly different target. Maybe signing really isn’t your thing – so pick something else. OR may that’s all you want to do – sing. Then take Simon’s advice to heart. Submit to lessons and disciple and really learning your craft. Success is always there, if you make a viable plan, work the plan and listen those who have traveled this journey before you.

So if you are not super rich dude Frank Kern – will it work for you?. If you are reading this from some coffee shop on a stolen laptop – for instance – can just ‘thinking abundance‘ make you rich?

Think and grow rich right?

Not, exactly.

Even in the U.S the country that worships money and allows the rich to basically steal money from anyone and everyone – becoming wealthy is hard (unless you, or your parents-even better- are already wealthy- see Donald Trump))

It takes work. Dedication and a manic fixation on a long term goal.

But that’s all it takes, I might add, not luck, not talent, not the correct DNA (you have the correct DNA, always). It just takes work, time dedication and a manic fixation on a long term goal.

However.

Abundance in a general sense -is everywhere.

We live in an abundant universe, and the only reason we don’t see it, is because we consciously or unconsciously restrict our access to abundance.

Now by abundance I don’t mean great wealth (though of course – see above- it is available) I mean there is available to you and to me whatever we need at this particular time to achieve whatever it is we have our heart set upon.

If you are trying to make a round the world trip and you don’t know how you will get all the visa or money or time or…anything. But you do know you are going to make a round the world trip. You will.

If you want a house. I mean really set that as a goal. But you have no money or security (ninjna) and forget bank bailouts. You will, secure a house. And keep it. If that’s what you really want.

If you want a relationship (that is be in a position to SHARE your life – not make a slave of someone to your life) you will find it.

If you want to create an Internet business that makes your job redundant, and you really want that. Its yours.

But do not confuse abundant thinking with wishful thinking. I wish I had a Mercedes, I’m not going to Do anything about it, I just wish.

Do not confuse abundance with greed and selfish desires.I wish I had a relationship with someone where I did nothing and they did everything and worshiped me.

By Abundance I do not mean I want to be THE KING OF THE WORLD forever and be worshiped.

Those things are never available in any true sense.

It is an abundant universe for anyone, anyone, who allows, others in (to Mentor and guide). Who allows correction in their ways, when it becomes necessary.Abundance is available especially when what you want in some way benefits not just you but others.

There is limitless availability of everything you need to create the life you want, whnen that life gives, offers, some value to others.

When you go after a goal that truly benefits others, as well as yourself -that is when you see the true power and amount of abundance available in this universe.

I kid you not.

The danger of expectations

Its exciting, its your new business.

You have just bought the course and downloaded all the information. You hurry through a few pages of the manual and scan a few instructional pdfs, glance at the video presentations -but really why bother?

You know, you truly know, for the first time, this is for you. This is your future!

Making money at home.

Making money in your underwear.

No more job, you hear me? No more job!

You know all the ‘pitch’ (case study) headlines. You’ve read through them at least ten times; -

‘four legged blind boy with no hands makes a million on the internet’.
‘Homeless dude creates fortune while living in an abandoned car’.
’16 year old student makes 5 million in fifteen seconds with his first launch, and he got it wrong!’.

You cant wait, cant wait to get your own business going.

So you sort of do some stuff, almost as they told you, well close enough. You buy a domain name, find a web hosting service, copy and paste the landing page, they gave you (they gave everybody), and you publish it. Its up! Its live!. You are on your way…

Nothing.

Now its a week later your credit card is maxed out to Google or Yahoo Pay Per Click advertising, and three people have clicked on your page and bought nothing. Not even opted-in. In fact you’re pretty sure they got to your site by mistake…

You hear overnight success – and you’re a failure

You hear videos going viral – and you’re stagnant.

You hear – $1 million in a week – and you’re into the bank for your mortgage and its been five weeks…

Reality check.

Some facts: -

Opt-in rates for a free item from an unknown are maybe, maybe 3%

Opt-in rates for a cold (that is, first time to website) buy – less than 1%

The chances of you getting it right the first time – less than.05%

The chances you will not quit in disgust?

Well that’s up to you. Totally. Completely. Up to you.

That’s when goals and dreams and reality collide.

A dream is a motivation. A goal is something concrete to work for. But expectations can kill you. Kill -your business, your ambitions, your drive..

Be aware expectations have nothing to do with actual success or failure.

If you dream is lets say to create financial freedom through an internet business, and your goal is to have a business up and running in a week, starting from zero. Its (probably) not going to happen.

All businesses take time. All things of value take – effort and time.

Never mind the four legged blind kid that had overnight success. (how many legs do you have? are you blind?)

And expect it to cost you.

A degree, a basic business degree is going to cost you at least $10,000. An MBA around $40,000. Are you prepared to spend $2-3000 learning? Over time? How much is financial freedom worth to you?

Are you prepared to fail to succeed?

Are you prepared to put in time? A degree is 3 years minimum (yes that does include extensive partying). To learn a trade like plumbing or carpentry takes minimum two years.

Are you prepared to have realistic expectations and give your self, a year at least, learning curve?

Are you prepared to do this while keeping a full time job.( 9 -5 you earning a living, after 5 you create a life)

Expect little except effort.

Accept your dream as a worthwhile lifetime achievement.

And then, whatever takes, make it happen.

Then have always the expectation of success. Understanding work and effort and time are the ultimate necessary ingredients. And the ultimate guarantee for success.

(The homeless guy in the car? – it took him 5 years- and he wasn’t really homeless and his car had WI-Fi)

The Time of the Entrepreneur.

America especially had always venerated the entrepreneur. An individual willing to risk it all on creating their own income stream. No boss, no board, no bank. Just the individual doing it all the way.The cowboy. (Cowgirl – cowperson?)

This is really what sets the USA apart. I live in Canada, and though we share the same landscape and border, the Canadian mentality is more…what shall we say…more compromising. An American (stereotypically) is driven, ambitious, aggressive and believes ‘I can do it,my way god darnit’. A Canadian is more live and let live and lets just all get through this together.

In business that tends to mean that Canada has less per person productivity than the USA. Not because Canada is less smart or less anything in any real way, except one. Risk.

The stereotypical Canadian will minimize risk (see our banking system which didn’t collapse in the economic meltdown, because fat cats and monopolies that they are, they dont like big risk)

Now this is generalizing and going for risk after all has allowed the USA to virtually bring down the entire worlds economy, and allowed China to put itself in a very important position economically and possibly will have irretrievable hurt the US in terms of its number 1 ranking for all time – but, thems the breaks .

Anyway…

Lets get back to the entrepreneur before I ride off in all directions at once

Its a fact, in terms of business, in terms of lifestyle – a successful entrepreneur has everything else beat hands down (except A list Male Hollywood actors perhaps ) (Oh and politicians – a free ride all the way – but -)

But an entrepreneur, the concept of an individual making it without the safety net of a job or big company environment, is risky.

Most people have jobs because jobs are easier. To get.But jobs have no life attached to them.

Most people ‘work’ because they dont like the risk. Most countries dont do as well ,productivity wise, as The US because the population avoids risk.

Be the cowboy/cowgirl. The wild spirited one. Its risky, but its a great life.

Why?

Entrepreneur – The true possibility of financial freedom at best and the reality of financial control of your life, at worst.

If you do not control the engine of your income, you have no control. If you have a job, you can be let go fired at any time for reasons that have nothing to do with your work, or accomplishments.

If you have a position with a financial ceiling – a job, a tenured position etc, then you can only make what is given , not what you can earn.

However -If you create your own business, and you keep at it until it proves successful, and it has scale (that is your earning ceiling is only limited by your ambition) then you have possibilities.Then you can create a lifestyle second to none, because you can have an income stream, independent of you time input. Financial freedom. And an income stream not in the hands of a boss or board.

However it will be in the hands of a marketplace, so: -

Top 3 things to look for in your entrepreneurial search: -

1) Make it something you want to do. Really want to do – this is how you are going to spend most of your waking hours, make it something that drives you .

2) Make sure your business can scale. Up. Examine the marketplace you want to be in, can it sustain you making millions? You might not ever want to make that much. But if you felt like it, could you?And in bad times will that marketplace sustain you?

3) Make sure, I repeat, make sure, you can get you time back out at some point in the future. If it will always take YOU working at the thing to keep it going, and theres no way to back you time out – you have a job, you are the boss and the employee. You have income, but no life.

4) Realize Risk is all. Not money as much as time and emotional commitment. You are going to have throw everything you have got behind the project. And when it fails (It might) be prepared to throw everything you’ve got into the next, and the next, until you make it work (it will)

Risk as in attitude, not as in throwing your family’s saving at something with no safety net. Not risk as in craziness without thought. Risk as in; no-one else believes in it, no-one else sees it, no-one else is prepared to work this hard, no one else can see how it will possibly work -

What do they know?

5) take advice only from those who have what you want. Again I repeat take advice only from those who have what you want. It doesn’t matter if its your parents, your best friend, your rich neighbor, if they do not have what you want – in this case, creating an income stream that is self sufficient unto itself, and that can make them millionaires. They have no say.

After all these days Frank Kern can make 1 million or so in an hour – and GM and top wall street financial institutions are bankrupt.

If you are not American , then absorb their driving spirit enough to make your life financially free.Believe in becoming accountable for your own future. Absorb the risk

When people are financially free they can help others. You have time and money. Its good to send money to Haiti or Chile, its better to go down there and help with your own hands, put the ‘aid’ directly into the right hands.

Its good to care about your kids. Its better to have a life where you can be with them when they need you because you have created time in your life.

The entrepreneur is a French word – but its Americas gift to the world.

Building the Dream

It is worth the time to build, to create, to play with the dream. Your dream.

If nothing will fail and money is not a concern – what would you do? How would you live? Where would you live? With who (whom?) would you live?

Goals are the concrete foundations you need to allow the dream. You can write down the steps to goals, you can chart a path to goals – but why are you doing all that work?

The dream.

Your dream.

If there is no emotionally charged dream for you – you will drift and never work hard enough.You need a dream to direct the work muscles.

Freedom is a dream. Free from what you ask? – well what ties you down?

Money is not a dream, its a goal – but what you may use the money for is the dream.

Money all by itself turns ugly and corroded. It turns in on itself, and makes you turn in on yourself. Power is ego run amok. Power leads to the abyss. Its not a pleasant (or short) fall when you get there.

But money buys (in the western world) dreams. Money can buy freedom. Money can buy you the right not to worry about money. The right for your family not to worry about money and get on with the important things in life.

Money also buys disaster of course. Unless you have a dream. Money does not t have to a goal for your dream. What is you dream?

The dream, something that’s working years for, something that motivates you, deep inside, something that charges you up emotionally. If its all glitter and no emotion – it wont last. It wont drive you.

So?

If all was possible – Where would you live? What kind of house? How many. Do you need a house? If you have or want a family they will certainly want shelter. What kind? Where.

A few details to consider for your house.

How much land is around your house? Is there an ocean or mountains? Do you have horses? Goats? Chickens? sculpted grounds – wild land.

Inside your house. Is it in a warm country? Does it need windows? Is it in temperate lands. How many rooms? Wheres you secret hideaway inside the house where you can just.Sit?

How wide are the corridors? Enough for two people to pass by comfortably – 6 feet? Wide enough for two people to pass comfortably and have side tables and flower arrangements? 9 feet? Alcoves in the hallway?

Are the rooms big enough so you can walk behind the furniture? Or is everything against the wall? Your taste. Your dream

Do you have a shack on the Western Hebrides? Lanai? Fiji? A boat?

A mobile home instead?

A floating home?

Where would you live?

Who would you live with? What kind of relationship do you want with your friends. Your spouse? Your children. In an ideal world. (that you can create).

What work would you do? You will have to do something to stay sane. But not 24/7. Not in your dream.

Travel?

Work for charities? Make movies? Make music. Finance a sick person? Finance homeless people. One person. End poverty on your street, in your town, in your country? Or pick a country end poverty there.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS ALL COST?

Write that down.

Now find a way to make that money appear.

And have your dream

The Vital and The Urgent

Vital:

If you have a long term goal; -then anything that helps you move to that goal is a Vital Action, everything else is at this time,is not vital. Of course life must go on, there are things have to be attended to.

But from a filling a calendar with activity perspective -prioritize the Vital – the things that make a difference long term, things that help you move to your goal.

Urgent

The challenge is of course the Urgent things that fill our lives. Urgent things are activities that clamor for our attention – NOW.

The cell phone ringing, the email that pops up, the ice cream that must be eaten before it melts, the neighbors barbecue you must go to right now, the… (well you get the idea)
Those activities that have immediate obvious return or reward – and make you feel like you are accomplishing things, when in fact you are , to coin a phrase, ‘merely wasting time’
And energy
Universal energy may be infinite – ours is not.

Focus on the vital with your energy

Think about this – All systems that survive function on Vital activities first and then worry about everything else.
When there is a challenge to your bodies’ systems, injury, virus etc, the body shuts down everything it doesn’t need to fight the attack, and then only when health is back does it relax its grip on the rest of its systems.

You sleep a lot when you are sick because the body shuts down all non essential activities, like- staying awake and blundering around using vital energy.The body needs that energy to fight.

That’s how you achieve anything in your life. Athletes call it going into ‘the zone’– focus on the vital only, all else is ignored.
A great athlete tends to be one who can summon tremendous powers of concentration to complete the race or the tennis match or the golf swing. Focus on the Vital, first.

Now you are not an athlete (lets say) this is not an Olympic event you set as goal (lets say) so you have to fit things around your priority work.

That’s why you use a calendar and day planner. Create spaces where you only focus on the work at hand.

And done even worry about the next step, or the next week, or the challenge coming up when…

Focus only on what has to be done NOW.

Everything else may be urgent or important– get to the dry cleaners, pick up milk, answer the phone, fix the dent on the car – but none are Vital.

However its not an excuse to leave your spouse or partner with all the work suddenly (or is that always?) – learn to Prioritize.

Make sure that the Vital tasks in your calendar and DONE. Then cope with the rest.
