class="wp-caption-text">live long and prosper

I like the concept of prospering. Success with a healthy moral component, perhaps.

Everyone wants to succeed, to make it. Who wants to prosper? It sounds more on-going that succeeding doesn’t it. Like its a life thing as opposed to an immediate thing. “Ok so I succeeded in doing that – now what?” But if you have prosperity or are prospering, its ongoing. Makes a journey out of effort.

Everyone wants just enough;

“I just want enough to be (fill in the blank)and happy, comfortable, taken care of, that all”

And then when we have that- well we want more.Just enough more.

What if the goal was ; “I want to prosper” ?

That suggests something ongoing, and also something interactive. You cant ‘prosper’ and leave your friends and neighbours in the ditch. That creates success perhaps, but not prosperity. Prosperity suggests we raise ourselves and everyone else up at the same time doesn’t it?

America was once known as a prosperous nation, now its..what? The richest? The most powerful?. I would like to be in a Prosperous nation wouldn’t you. It implies the nation is powerful, successful, of course, but also a nation that lifts up others.

How about a goal of prospering? When asked whats your goal in life – you can say – I wish to prosper.

How do you prosper?

Well prosperity is not necessarily about how much wealth/stuff/gold you can acquire, as much perhaps about how much good will you can build.

Prosperity is not so much about getting to the top. Maybe more about pushing your potential

Prosperity is not so much about being Number 1. It suggest more that you are part of a community that has become enriched through effort and mutual concern for wellbeing

Prospering isn’t working till you drop. But a balance of effort, goodwill and achievement.

To succeed – you win. You overcome. You beat the rest. You destroy the challenges. You kill the opposition.

To prosper – you are in a mode of constant achievement. You are aware you are part of a group, a species perhaps. You realize success only works if somehow your success has enriched others.

Its not that tricky to succeed – you just keep going. Its not complicated. Its just hard dedicated work towards a goal.

To prosper, perhaps, requires ongoing realization that one person making it alone, is one thing, but when you reach down to bring others along, even if it seems it will slow the journey, is something beyond imagining
<div

Be open to possibilities. If you want to succeed, in a financial fashion, don’t become so tunnel vision oriented that you miss opportunities. You may decide for instance that writing or selling books is the way you are going to make it, and you become so focused you miss an opportunity a friend is offering in say blogging. Or you want to sell real estate, but an acquaintance has an on line clothing store that he needs help with an will even give you equity in it, but you don’t give it a thought. Listen to the opportunities around you, there are always opportunities. Some are good for you, some aren’t. But be open. Here’s another truism when you look back from a successful venture it is never what you were looking for and it is almost always a collection of staggering coincidences that led you to that successful venture. Be open and aware

2) Say yes.

That’s it. Say yes. At least to the possibility. Take a chance to invest some time investigating the opportunity. Say no when it obviously will not work for you at this time. But initially say yes – you cal always say o later. But if you say no, or are fearful of even looking into the possibility. There’s no opportunity to say. There’s no ‘luck” in your life.

4) Be prepared.

Success happens when you are prepared and available. So be open, but also be ready to tun up, when it happens. They say 50% of success is turning up. 90% is turning up ready to play. Be ready for action, and act, immediately. A friend asks, or you see an ad, or there’s a message put out, and you think- that’s interesting, in fact that would work for me, I should get in touch with them. Tomorrow, and then its after the weekend, and then…its gone. Turn up, ready to play when you see an opportunity

3) Accept failure

The world is full of opportunities, not all are for you, and most will not work, because of timing or finances, or market changing or you cant get along with your partners. Success comes from failure – but in the words of Bob Dylan – “failure is no success at all”. Failure is to be expected. If everything worked all the time…well what a mess. And if everything worked the way it was supposed to , everyone would do it, and there would be no money in it. Success is rewarding and lucrative, because most will not get past the first failure. Failure if you will is the fence or guards around success. Its the filter that allows only the prepared an determined win. And thats why winning is so lucrative, because so few get there, not because of luck or talent or skill, but because of lack of determination and foresight to get past the first one or two or twelve failures. The more failures there are, the more profitable and rewarding is is when you get there. You can fail as many timers as necessary – but you only need to success – ONCE. A good number. Once

4) Believe in opportunity

Be available, be prepared, and expect opportunity. Millions were made in the 1920′s depression , not by many, but by the few who were ready prepared and expected to find opportunity. Its party of being available. If you don’t believe it, you wont see it, and opportunity and luck will pass you by. Believe it before its there. Its allows you to be available, and make you want to be prepared, and take away tunnel vision. Sets you up for success. Yes if you believe you can achieve it. Bit if you don’t believe there is an opportunity for you round every corner – you’ll never ever see it. Even when its staring you in the face.

and just for luck – an extra lucky step: -

6) Expect to work

“The harder I work the luckier I get”. Its seems like a golden opportunity then you see the work involved and you think – that’s not what I want that’s not how people become e successful – they’re just ‘luck’ into things. No-one licks into things that produce true success and value in their lives. There is the 10,000 hour theory, to become very good at anything – you have to put in at least 10,000 hours at the thing. Frank Kern in Internet marketing portrays himself as lazy and long haired and a goofball. If you believe that – you should buy my bridge I have -you’ll find it in Brooklyn where I left It for you. If you get a chance take a look at say Mass Control 1 or 2 that Frank Kern created – imagine how many hours of actually creating, and then how many hours of study of all the direct selling gurus he must have done – has done. Its always work. Luck is always work. The harder I work the luckier I get
<div

But everyone is equal in ability to create a success if they work at it. If you really want to be a singer and have no natural talent – understand the obstacles and work and heart ache you will have to go through. But if you will go through the challenges and take the lessons, take the disciplining, then you can achieve success. You never win at anything if you quit at the first sign of resistance, or criticism.
Another famous quote – quitters never win and winners never quit. Cliche but true.

3) Comparisons are useless and destructive.

You always work on what you can control, and you can only control you and your results and your reactions. To say he or she is a better singer or luckier or smarter or stronger has no value.

What can you do?

What are you prepared to do?

Compare only what can be done with what you are doing. Not the other competitor. The view from the top is always fine, no matter how long it takes to get there.

4) Complaining about a bad call, an unluckily break,a bad judge, an unseen obstacle, can never help.

Success is always about focus, focus on the goal and the plan. The task at hand. You only have so much energy at any given moment, use it wisely, do not let it dissipate in despair and complaints.

And no matter who you are there will always be someone doing whatever you want to do, faster, with more money or more talent or more grace or more dumb luck. So what its not about them, its about your drive to goal. Focus is all

5)Be flexible on the time frame, but not the goal.

You might not win American Idol say, or might not even pass the first audition, but in terms of an over journey to a goal – that is irrelevant. It is merely an experience, an event in a series of events toward your goal.

The winner of American Idol is rarely after the one who makes it ‘big’. That requires work an persistence. Not just singing ability an ht luck of the voting pool that year.

6) A sure test of if you really want to success: – what happens when you are told you will never be successful in that particular endeavor? If you quit You lose.
You may re adjust your goal, or re asses your journey, and maybe even go for a slightly different target. Maybe signing really isn’t your thing – so pick something else. OR may that’s all you want to do – sing. Then take Simon’s advice to heart. Submit to lessons and disciple and really learning your craft. Success is always there, if you make a viable plan, work the plan and listen those who have traveled this journey before you.

and

7) winning on TV isn’t winning in real life.

<div

As my dear old Dad used to say – you cant steer a parked car. (of course my dear old Dad never said that – some motivational speaker said that, over and over again. My dear old Dad was more likely to say – you are the laziest son I have ever had)

Nevertheless only activity can produce success. taking and thinking about ‘a plan is good. But unless there is activity there will never be an outcome. A result.

By the way this has to be the best (as in most complex ) mindmap I have seen for displaying, everything, I mean everything you need to know about Internet Marketing.

<a

It is a thing of beauty.

Back to the post at hand.

Only activity in the end will produce results. Only results produce success. And if in doubt do something, any activity will produce some result. Good or bad. Inactivity produces nothing.

Ken Robinson has a great video on creativity being weaned out of us through education

<object

The New Definition: – all outcomes that come from directed effort are successful outcomes.

No effort, no outcome, that is not allowable. All outcomes from directed effort count. And are important.

Success is merely a series of wrong steps continuously learned from, that eventually produces your desired result. Success.

John Reese always says you learn from activity. And no matter where your business is right now, as long as your are prepared to put in continued activity – this is the ‘worst’ your business is going to ever be.

If you have a business that’s moving along, you may become frightened to change anything or try anything new in case you disturb the little ‘success your business is producing.

You cannot get different results from the same effort. You cannot get more money from something that gives less money. So you have to change the business to produce a new result. Initially the change may produce less money or no money and you feel this is an unsuccessful step and stop doing anything else.

You cannot get more from the same, and you cannot ever, ever, ever expect to be right the first time or the second time or the third time. Success is produced from a series of steps, most of which appear to be mistakes but are just learning steps. If you don’t learn the wrong way, you cannot find the right way.

To create a successful business requires effort, constant effort. And being willing to learn from that constant efort.’Mistakes’ are irrelevant, and actually dont exist. Rename your ‘mistakes’- your steps. You do not incur mistakes, you only have steps towards your desired outcome

Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiam.<br

Thus The Frank Kern idea of ‘stacking the cool”, moving the free line. Give away ‘cool’ value things for free, and the givee will fell (mostly) obligated

2)Liking – we have a tendency to say yes to people we like. Again, the direct marketers portray ‘the likable character’. The story of rags to riches, the humble hero etc. Make your character likable when selling. Or perhaps ACTUALLY make yourself and your life, open and likable and things move in your favor.

3)Scarcity – we place more value on things that are in short supply. And expensive. An e-book that is $19.99 and available to all,is one thing. A Value Report, only 25 available in the world, can be priced at $3000, and jumped at, especially if you have created 1 and 2 above. That is proved you produce value. Now the $19.99 ebook could have the same information, but it will not have the same ‘value’.

4)Social Proof – we always look to see what others are doing, when we are not sure of a decision. A busy restaurant does better than an empty one (Its not about the food). People by more in a busy store than an empty store. Its impossible to stop a run on a bank.

5) Authority – we tend to put more weight on the sayings of those in ‘power’. Power in this case can be ‘in the spotlight’. Frank Kern is notorious for taking up all available oxygen when doing a launch f a product, so his is the most dominat voice in that market at that time.A Movie Star or (just for talkings sake ) a Golf Star have more weight and impact on our water cooler discussions than say – Mabel. (though they may be all doing the same thing).

6) Commitment and Consistency – we like things that are the same, or we perceive to be the same. We like people who follow through. We like people who keep to the same ‘story’.

Of course all six things can be manipulated to produce persuasion. But only for so long. The true ‘supersperson”, ‘super persuader’ actually IS all these things. And uses them only to produce beneficial, that is win-win situations for all involved.
<div

Then if you back out of the ‘funnel’ because of shipping, they both offer direct downloads for $1.

In Internet Marketing once you have a’ product’ re-use it as many ways a possible. Mike Filsaime is a master at this, and Lee McIntyre duplicates in true form.

So they know their stuff.

But where are you , or me in this? Getting started, fumbling through the morass of information and techniques and watching the ‘gurus’ pile on the money and almost newbies like McIntyre generate $100,000 a month, with the same apparently slick techniques.

Mike Filsaime started back when the Internet was still steam powered. When the market was still virginal and naive and you could spam yourself a customer or two. Mike Filsaime grew up at the same time that “Internet Marketing’ grew up. He caught the wave.

2010 is not 1999. The audience is sophisticated. There is no spam. Your emails are full of ‘mass control’ headlines and pitches. Your email box is FULL of your opt-in responses and you cant remember which is which, as most are the same, and they want you to spend anywhere from $9.99 lifetime buy in, to only a mere $699 a month. And the pitches are endless. How are You ever going to make it?

Niche marketing is…well what niche hasn’t been explored, mined, trawled, over and over. SEO is no longer the wonder it was, as Google always stays ahead. And the days of PPC average costs of .15c a click are so far away its like another universe.

But so what.

Everything changes.

Theres always the ones who get in ‘at the right time’.

Remember for every Mike Filsaime, John Reese, Eban Pagan and Frank Kern, there are hundred who didnt make it.Who started when times were ‘good’. When things were ‘easier’. When the time was ‘right’.

But they didnt make it. They failed?

They quit

Then there is Lee McIntyre, his business is barely 2 years old. So he started when the bloom was certainly off the rose.

For every new marketer that comes along there are thousands of new prospects flooding the internet. The customer/prospect base is increasing far beyond the capture possibilities of the few ‘gurus’ out there.

Thus Lee McIntyre.

And watch Lee McIntyre enter his small meeting room on his first day. His opening. He is nervous. He hadn’t slept the night before, or the night before that. A month before he was worried sick no-one would pay to come hear Lee McIntyre. Why would they?

Then he was worried sick they would all cancel. Why wouldnt they?

Then he was worried no-one would come, even after they had paid. Why would they?

Then he was worried sick no-one would respond to his ‘information’ and they would all leave. Of course they will. Its just lee McIntyre – not someone, well ,important.

But here’s the thing. He went ahead. He booked the little meeting room in Manchester. He didnt want to. He wanted to run away. He wanted to cancel. He was terrified. We’re all terrified of moving forward. But he went there anyway. He walked into the room anyway. He started to speak anyway. He went through with it anyway.

The biggest challenge, especially with Internet marketing where your at home with this ‘thing’ on the screen, nothing “Real’. Why bother? This thing isn’t really a website. You dont have all the advantages. It will never work.

So you walk away. Why not? Whats the point?

You dont ‘pull the trigger’, because if you dont ‘act’ you can dream. But if you act – then you have to deal with reality.

And it maybe failure.

This time

Remember.

Only this time.

Do it again

Watch Lee McIntyre, he is Mike Filsaime et al way back. Nervous frightened, terrified his dreams will shatter.

But he goes ahead anyway. And hes not great that first day. Nervous, not a good speaker, uncertain. Hesitant.

But by the second day, hes relaxed, hes believing a little in himself, and he has great information to share.

As we all do.

As we all do.

But we have to pull the trigger. We have to allow our dreams to shatter and deal with reality .

You cant move on if you you dont move. A parked car cannot be steered.

As John Reese always says – whatever you do now, is the worst its going to be because you will learn to fix your mistakes.

But if you dont act. If you dont leap. How can you move?

Leap.

Now – when its not right, when its not perfect, when it might not work.

Because next time, it will work better.

<a

It just is. So if you need that particular fact or essay or ebook or e-report for a reason, great. But its a tool, replace it when done with it.You dont need to memorize it, or let it clutter your head space. Use it when you need it, put it away when you dont. href="http://www.famousquotes.com/show.php?_id=1030396">… knowledge is doubling every ten years.”

Eric Johnson, president of the US Chamber of Commerce — in the mid-twentieth century — as he noted the constancy of change.

That was before the Internet.

With the advent of the Web , knowledge was doubling approximately every 18 months by 2004, according to the American Society of Training and Documentation (ASTD).

or

IBM predicts that in the next couple of years, information will double every 11 hours [PDF].

or

“as shown in patents and academic publication, knowledge doubles at different rates for different sectors, ranging from 2 years for nanotechnology to 21 years for other sectors.” (newsfan)

or

Ray Kurzweil predicts within decades, he predicts, he will be billions of times more intelligent than he is today, able to read minds, assume different forms, and reshape his physical environment at will. So will everyone. Today’s human beings, mere quintessences of dust, will be as outmoded as Homo Erectus.

All this, Kurzweil believes, will come about through something called The Singularity. Popularized more than a decade ago by the mathematician, computer scientist, and science fiction novelist Vernor Vinge, who borrowed the term from mathematics and astrophysics, it refers to the future point at which technological change, propelled by the explosive growth of artificial intelligence, will accelerate past the point of current human comprehension. In Vinge’s prevision, once artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence there will be no turning back, as ever more intelligent computers create ever more superintelligent offspring. “Within 30 years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence,” wired magazine

or

Even if the acceleration of the rate slowed in a lifetime of 80 years knowledge will
have increased 2^80 times.

or

What happens when the rate accelerates to a doubling every month. Then
knowledge will increase by 4096 times every year.

So bottom line I guess – you get to pick the amount of knowledge we have or will have or might have, because….no-one seems to know…about knowledge…exactly.

Exactly.

Honest its mostly guessing. High paid guessing and PHD guessing – but guessing.

You know how many species of animals in the worlds there are? We don’t know.

Why do we sleep? – We’re not sure

Where does life come from? – We’re not sure

Why is there something rather than nothing? That is why are we and the universe here, rather than not here? – We don’t know.

How did language evolve? – We don’t know.

There’s more we don’t know than we know.

And what we “know’, what is called ‘information’ – is mostly naming things. They were always here, it’s just now we have ‘discovered ‘them and given them a name. And everytime we name something – it’s called knowledge. It’s not, it’s just a name.

Anyway.

The point is.

Relax

Information is for using not memorizing.

Statistics are what’s already here but re-arranged. The percentage of RBI’s with or without steroids by (place players name here)… Well we may or may not know that name, we may or may not know, or care, he uses steroids, and the number of runs batted in expressed on a xy curve or a bell curve doesn’t change the fact of your or my cancer or flu symptoms or knee scrape or pregnancy or job prospects. Its just stuff put together from other stuff and then called ‘new’ stuff

Science is about the same, there’s nothing ‘discovered’. You or I may not have known about protons before science’ discovered ‘ them, but they were there, and scrambled eggs are still scrambled eggs with or without the proton factor.

Ok Science is good for technology, good to allow us more…comfort.

All that I am saying is…

calm down, its just stuff – and mostly, for you and me, not so important ‘stuff’

How about we learn what we Don’t need to know

Homelessness – a cure. Its too overwhelming isn’t it? It is said there are over a quarter of a million people homeless in New York City on any given day – 250,000 people. How much would it cost to fix that? – No-one has that much money to spare. But -

Apparently there are only about 2500 chronically homeless people. That is who no matter what happens will be homeless, due to medical or mental challenges. NYC is spending over $62 million annually on homelessness. That’s almost $25,000 a year, every year. You want to fix homelessness in NYC – buy cheap housing, put in stand-by nurses and access to hospital care for those 2500. Cost less than $62 million over 10 years, 20 years. But that is not how we think, we want stats and bell curves, and we don’t want to give to those down and outs when the single mum gets nothing – we have principles. But then our principles, and information get in the way of actual knowledge – so we fail.

or

The famous Rodney King beating and the LAPD. Millions were spent on the LAPD and studies and reports and Commissions. Money was poured into better recruiting techniques and better training programs and graphs and diagrams and statistics were labored over. But The Commission report into the LAPD at the time found there were 44 – Forty Four hard core BAD cops who basically caused all the trouble. There were other cops who weren’t perfect, but there were 44 hard core nut jobs. Fire the 44. You’re done. LAPD resurrected. But we have so much ‘information’ how can it be that simple?

Really -

Its the old story – a the 80/20 rule. 20% of any number produce 80% of the problem, or the profit, or the work or the situation. 10% are the key movers. 1-5% are the core of the problem, or the solution

But that is not a bell curve, that is not…fair. And we believe in fairness and statistical methods and more knowledge gathering until we can solve the problem.

That’s our problem, there’s always a few causing the much. And its always simpler than we think. And in an information crazy world (the Western World) where grants and money are tied to ‘discovering’ things. Simple let’s face it – is not good.

But listen – it’s always simpler than we think.

Remember that about business, your internet business. No matter how many programs you buy, how many seminars you attend, how much ‘knowledge’ you try to cram into your brain. Less than 20% of anything is worthwhile. So settle down, back up. Pick a business niche or market you like, or likes you – and learn it.

Not everything about everything, just that key 2-10% that makes it all move, and then if you have tie the rest of the 20% – but honestly you dont need that much ‘information’

Learn what you don’t need to know.

Most of the ‘knowledge’ is a luxury. Its because we can produce the numbers not because they have any true value. Its a rich society’s way. Always.

(yes test and track, use all the analytics, but that not ‘knowledge – that’s tools – put them back when you’re finished with them)

Figure out all the little you need to know – and know that.

Information is a tool – use when needed. And put it away

And in ten years it will still be less than 20% of the whole – and in 100 years.

Because WE don’t change. We are Singular. We are the singularity, in our own lives

WE can make as many stats and graphs and discoveries – but WE don’t change. We love and hate and envy and desire and believe and distrust and care now and before. 1000 years ago and (if we are around) 1000 years from now.

A customer still wants or needs or desires fun or love or security or relief from pain or…well all the usual stuff. It doesn’t change. Now and forever amen (perhaps?).

Related Blogs
<ul

How would you live? Where would you live? With who (whom?) would you live?

Goals are the concrete foundations you need to allow the dream. You can write down the steps to goals, you can chart a path to goals – but why are you doing all that work?

The dream.

Your dream.

If there is no emotionally charged dream for you – you will drift and never work hard enough. You need a dream to direct the work muscles.

Freedom is a dream. Free from what you ask? – well what ties you down?

Money is not a dream, its a goal – but what you may use the money for is the dream.

Money all by itself turns ugly and corroded. It turns in on itself, and makes you turn in on yourself. Power is ego run amok. Power leads to the abyss. Its not a pleasant (or short) fall when you get there.

But money buys (in the western world) dreams. Money can buy freedom. Money can buy you the right not to worry about money. The right for your family not to worry about money and get on with the important things in life.

Money also buys disaster of course. Unless you have a dream. Money does not t have to a goal for your dream. What is you dream?

The dream, something that’s working years for, something that motivates you, deep inside, something that charges you up emotionally. If its all glitter and no emotion – it wont last. It wont drive you.

So?

If all was possible – Where would you live? What kind of house? How many. Do you need a house? If you have or want a family they will certainly want shelter. What kind? Where.

A few details to consider for your house.

How much land is around your house? Is there an ocean or mountains? Do you have horses? Goats? Chickens? sculpted grounds – wild land.

Inside your house. Is it in a warm country? Does it need windows? Is it in temperate lands. How many rooms? Wheres you secret hideaway inside the house where you can just.Sit?

How wide are the corridors? Enough for two people to pass by comfortably – 6 feet? Wide enough for two people to pass comfortably and have side tables and flower arrangements? 9 feet? Alcoves in the hallway?

Are the rooms big enough so you can walk behind the furniture? Or is everything against the wall? Your taste. Your dream

Do you have a shack on the Western Hebrides? Lanai? Fiji? A boat?

A mobile home instead?

A floating home?

Where would you live?

Who would you live with? What kind of relationship do you want with your friends. Your spouse? Your children. In an ideal world. (that you can create).

What work would you do? You will have to do something to stay sane. But not 24/7. Not in your dream.

Travel?

Work for charities? Make movies? Make music. Finance a sick person? Finance homeless people. One person. End poverty on your street, in your town, in your country? Or pick a country end poverty there.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS ALL COST?

Write that down.

Now find a way to make that money appear.

And have your dream

<object
